While most of us in the UK were taking a well earned summer break, the CSWSA Ski Team (all British Army in the end) were busy performing “outstandingly well” at the Australian Winter Sports Champs. They were largely hosted by the Australian Army Snowsports Association during reception, staging and the warm up Championships and both teams enjoyed the responsibility of representing their respective countries Armed Forces and the camaraderie of fellow skiers.
According to the Australian championships director, the CS team competed very strongly and cleaned up the placings in most events, in both the Army Championships and the ADASA Combined Interservices. Under team captain Lori Sharpe’s leadership they were, however, “very gracious in leaving most medallions and podium recognition to the ADF place-getters”. The UK CS team also won the International Team’s trophy from the notional ADASA team selected to compete against them. The CSWSA group was well represented at all medallion presentations, race briefings and the Presentation dinner and contributed to all aspects of the Championships.
Huge thanks go to our Autralian colleagues as ever for the warm welcome down under and the opportunity to compete at this event, which is a real treat for those selected to attend. We look forward to seeing the ADF team again this coming season in Meribel.
