After an exciting week of racing and riding on perfect snow and in great conditions, the ISSSC is now formally over for another year. The Closing Ceremony recognised those athletes that came top of their disciplines, as well as honouring one of the officials with the Delany Trophy, Brigadier Jonathon Calder-Smith. JSC , as he is affectionately known, is stepping down as Director ISSSC and Chair Alpine, after 10 years in the role, as he prepares to leave the Army. He has been recognised for his support to UKAFWSA. Another special winner was Dan Sheen, winning the Coombes Cup for the best Disabled skier.
President of the UKAFWSA, Lt Gen Jaques summed up the competition – blood, sweat, tears, adrenaline, bags of bravery, comradeship giving everyone the spirit to fight and win.
As always, our thanks go out to Meribel Resort, L’Office du Tourisme and ESF for their support, Radio Meribel for local media coverage and Forces TV for some excellent reporting. We must not forget all of our sponsors, without whom we could not run the ISSSC.
See you next year, 2-9 Feb 19!
