Steve Wadey, CEO

I am delighted that despite the challenging times that we are all facing as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, QinetiQ is able to maintain its support for the UK Armed Forces Winter Sports Association (UKAF WSA).  We understand the reasons why the Inter-Service Snow Sports Championship (ISSSC) will not take place this season but, like many, look forward optimistically to returning for the 2021-22 season to the welcoming Meribel resort that always hosts these championships so very well.

I am very proud of our collaboration and association with the UK Armed Forces, and applaud the way that military colleagues across all operating domains have delivered amazing capability throughout 2020 despite the strictures of the global pandemic.  I know that we all appreciate the challenges that our forces have faced this year in keeping servicemen and women safe whilst maintaining core military output, and also providing vital additional national support in response to the Covid-19 crisis.  We are privileged to play our part in enabling military capability, and value the close and enduring relationships we have with our partners and customers in Defence.

The impressive achievements of our Armed Forces are only possible because of the equally impressive men and women that make up today’s services – not only delivering core military capability but, as regularly witnessed on our TV screens, helping fight the pandemic by supporting the NHS, manning testing centres, delivering essential medical supplies and PPE, and in other ways not seen by the public.  In these unusual times, the role that sport and adventurous training plays is perhaps even more critical in retaining and developing inspiring people within the Armed Forces, and we remain proud to help through continuing our support for the UKAF WSA, and especially for the inspirational Armed Forces Para-Snow sport Team (AFPST).

The sheer dedication, courage and team-work regularly displayed by all ISSSC competitors and those in the other UKAF WSA competitions throughout the season never fails to impress.  These attributes, together with a relentless focus on performance, underpin top-level team and individual success and serve as a great example to all, whether in industry or the military.

Although opportunities for racing have been curtailed this season, I and my team at QinetiQ wish all competitors safe training this year, and look forward hopefully to watching and supporting athletes across all disciplines on the snow in 2022.
