The Sprint: A Display of Speed, Precision, and Explosive Power
The Sprint is a short, fast individual timed race that serves as a condensed version of Telemark racing. Unlike the single-run Classic, this discipline consists of two separate runs, with the final winner determined by the combined time of both performances. While it features fewer gates than the long-distance Classic, it retains all the technical elements that define the sport.
The course is designed to be compact but highly technical, incorporating a jump, a 360-degree turn (also known as a Wrap or Loom), and a demanding skating section. In a Sprint race, the skating portion is particularly significant relative to the course length, normally accounting for approximately one-third of the total race time.
Because of its shorter duration, the character of the Sprint is explosive and tactical. There is very little margin for error; any mistake, especially during the jump or the skating section, can have a major impact on the final standings. Ultimately, these races are often won by athletes who can provide strong sprint endurance and flawless technique under pressure.
