Telemark Classic

The Classic: A Masterclass in Endurance and Technique

The Classic is the flagship discipline of Telemark, widely regarded as the ultimate test of endurance for any athlete. This long-distance race follows an individual timed format consisting of one exceptionally long run. Throughout the course, competitors must navigate a highly varied GS/telemark gate section and overcome technical challenges such as steep slopes and terrain transitions.

The race also features specific obstacles that test a skier’s versatility, including jumps and 360-degree turns. However, the most grueling challenge is the long, punishing skating section at the end, which can sometimes occur more than once during the run. Because of these factors, the Classic is known as the most physically demanding event in all of Telemark racing.

Ultimately, the race characterises a true test of full-body endurance and technical skill. Success requires more than just raw power; athletes must master the art of pacing and learn how to balance speed with stamina to reach the finish line effectively. While it is a grueling experience for the participants, the diversity of the course and the high level of skill required make it an excellent spectator event for those watching the drama unfold.
